Cali P, a staple of ski movie soundtracks, has been stuck in a Babylon prison since May 6.
Last summer I interviewed reggae artist Cali P during ESPN Freeskiing's Reggae Week. Now I come to find out that he has been sitting in a Swiss prison for the last two weeks! All street cred aside, it seems that Cali was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and he got scooped up in a wholesale police raid. Two weeks of imprisonment later, still no formal charges have been filed against the artist. Cali P's record label reports:
On the 6th of May, Cali P was in a location were a police raid took place, and was arrested by Swiss Police.
He has been held since then in jail, with his only crime being at the wrong place at the wrong time. The police justify his being locked up with the excuse that he could "Flee" the country if they free him, as he has a foreign passport.
His family and friends are working round the clock to try and clarify the situation (it is not clear at the moment as to which charges he is being held), but as it is custom with Swiss police, very little information has been given — and very few visits are permitted.
We apologize on Cali P's behalf for not being able to keep in touch with his fans via Myspace and Facebook — he is not allowed access to internet. But as soon as the situation is sorted the lyrical fire will keep on blazing!!!!
