If you haven’t heard about the ‘Hand Cart Bwoy’ then you are indeed missing out on one of the most powerful, intriguing and refreshing voices in today’s Reggae/ Dancehall scene. We are speaking of Perfect, the same artiste with the current hits 'Bobo Nuh Shave' and 'Lock Mi Up'. Many have heard his songs and seen him perform, and are still in awe as to why this remarkable entertainer has been kept from them so long. In fact his brand spanking music video with 'Hand Cart/Lock Mi Up' has been creating absolute stir, and is a must see! Born on March 26, Greg Rose is the third child in a family of four children. He grew up in the cool hills of Bamboo, which is south of St. Ann’s Bay and east of Brown’s Town, in the parish of St. Ann. Perfect has always been exposed to various genres of music, and spent many evenings listening to and singing his favorite songs. His father owned several jukeboxes, giving him full exposure to rhythm of the Jamaican people. He counts Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Toots Hibbert as some of his early favourites. From as early as nine years old he was a primary school entertainer. This stardom exploded as he entered York Castle High and by the eighth grade he was a superstar performing regularly at the school’s fetes and concerts, and at similar events at other schools. Thereafter, he was branded - Mr. Perfect. After leaving high school, Perfect came to Kingston to get a first hand understanding of the business [music], and spent time at several recording studios, including Penthouse, King Jammy’s and Arrows, fine-tuning his art. Returning to St. Ann, he maintained his closeness with music and started appearing at dances and stage shows at every chance he could. This caused his popularity to soar, and he was on the lips of everyone. Determined to break into mainstream recording, Perfect did a few self-produced recordings in 2001. Building on that successful effort, he soon recorded the album ‘Sweet and Black’, which has a blend of classical and refreshingly new soul reaching messages. ‘Empress Mi Love’ and ‘Turn Him Down’ from that CD, still continue to receive much air and club play after more than two years. Today the airwaves are blazing with the smash hit 'Hand Cart'. Other major singles being currently played include - ‘Johnny’, ‘Bend Dem’ and 'All Fi Themselves', signaling his ‘prime time’ repertoire. And, as such he has already been receiving awards, placing third in IRIE FM’s ‘Big Break’ competition held in October 2003. He has been making regular show appearances, and to top it off he 'Locked Up' Sumfest, the world's greatest reggae show, with a scintillating performance on Dancehall Night 2004. A Rastafarian, Perfect’s lyrics are deep and straightforward, yet unforgettably melodious, leaving you to keep listening to them over and over. Simply put, he keeps his lyrics real, and apologetically uses it as his medium in the education and self-awareness of oppressed people. So, are you ready for the ‘Hand Cart Bwoy? - As radio jocks say, “ Here is the man, who is ‘perfectly Perfect’ ".
