Elephant Man launches ‘Ova Di Wall’, new album in stores this summer...
Elephant Man has begun a US tour to promote the release for his new album ‘Ova Di Wall’. The Energy God thrilled audiences last week with 2 shows back-to-back at SOB’s night club in Manhattan. The show, which was promoted by New York radio station Hot 97 and sponsored by Navan Liquor, launched a 2 month national tour with supporting act Kiprich and the usual cast of dancers and singers. Elephant Man hit the international scene in 2003 with the release of his album Good 2 Go, his first with VP Records. With songs like ‘Pon Di River’ and ‘Jook Gal’ Elephant Man brought dancehall dancing to the forefront and was nominated for an MTV2 Video Music Award, Vibe Award, and won the first ever Source Award for dancehall reggae. Elephant Man’s exposure to the mainstream was furthered by an endorsement deal with Puma who used the artist’s song ‘All Out’ in its first ever North American TV ad campaign. The new album ‘Ova Di Wall’ will be in stores this summer, “It’s a hybrid dancehall album, if you’re a hip hop fan, a reggaeton fan, or straight dancehall or reggae fan, there will be something on there for you” the artist said about the collection of songs being considered for the album.
Since the crossover success of the last album, Elephant Man has been busy touring and remixing tracks with a variety of artists “I have been blessed to work with so many different artists recently, Janet Jackson, Will Smith, Lil Jon, and so many others, it has really inspired me.” Elephant Man continues to add to his impressive list of collaborators with Reggaeton artists Daddy Yankee and Pitbull on the remix of ‘Rah Rah’, produced by Hot 97’s Bobby Konders’ Massive B label. Another recent collaboration was with southern hip hop artist David Banner titled ‘Shake That Booty (Krumpa Remix)’ on the Black Chiney produced Kopa Riddim “I sing about booty shaking, cuz that’s what the girls do in Jamaica, it’s an inspiration to me” Another of Elephant Man’s inspirations is dancing, a member of his entourage, the dancer Gerald Levy a.k.a. Bogle, was recently gunned down after a party in Jamaica. The dancing icon’s passing had a profound affect on the entertainer, “Music and dancing go hand in hand, whether it’s the slowest music, or the fastest, you are dancing, Bogle was an inspiration to us all, he was a good friend from my hometown” Elephant Man’s home Seaview Gardens, an area of Kingston plagued by gang violence, is also an influence on the artist. “When you hear me say ‘Bad Man a Bad Man’ or talk about the gansta’s, I’m using the slang from the street, because there are enough gangsta’s in Seaview Garden, and they influence the music like everything else.” Elephant Man’s Ova Di Wall Tour continues until the end of April when he will be appearing with Snoop Dog, The Game, and Jadakiss, for a show in upstate New York. Stay tuned to VP Records on release date information for the new album ‘Ova Di Wall’ and check your local listings to see when the ‘Ova Di Wall’ tour will be coming to your area.
