dit staat op den blog van cherine anderson staan wel wa namen in da ge ook is kunt chekke
It's been a real joy to see the growing number of talented females coming into the business. Two years ago there were less than 10 females who were constantly working and supporting themselves as recording artist in Jamaica. Today we seeing a wave of fresh talent, myself included, entering the business and effecting change. We are now seeing diversity in the music from roots to rock to dancehall to dancehall soul. Everyone is adding their own twist to it and making it uniquely ours. In the past year we've witnessed the emergence of
Cherine Anderson Alaine Queen Ifrica Etana MBC Tami Chynn Kris Kelli Tessanne Chin Tina Nunez Rakell Calibe Jovi Rockwell Nyaka Nickeisha Barnes Spice Danielle Aisha Davis Rudy (I know I am leaving out names.... but it's growing so quickly that I can't keep up...and that's a GREAT thing)
The Jamaican music industry has not always been kind to females. Only the toughest survived. Big up to women such as Lady Saw, Tanya Stephens, Diana King, Patra,Chevelle Franklyn, Lady G , Worl-A-Girl, J.C Lodge , Nadine Sutherland, Cecile as well as veterans like Marcia Griffiths, Judy Mowatt, and Rita Marley among so many others who have helped to break ground and open the door for us.
Many argue that females are sometimes too easily distracted and that the ones who rise get there either on their backs or through affiliation with rich and powerful connections...Most neglect the fact that we have voices and intelligence and we have to work twice as hard to be respected... We write, we sing ,we arrange, we direct videos, we are actresses ...shit we DO THE DAMN THING...but it's always been the case where the gate keepers were successful in turning women against each other and as a result we saw each other as competition instead of support and fought against each other to the detriment of ourselves. Leaving a handful to battle it out in a game that doesn't not often include or credit us…BUT ALL THIS CAN CHANGE .
Nonetheless I feel blessed to be a part of a movement of young Jamaican females who are redefining what is expected of dancehall and reggae. The presence is being felt. We've produced some of the biggest records in the last 2 years adding that femine touch to the business. We should feel proud and keep supporting each other in a way that has not been done before. It's on us to turn this hustle in a multi-million dollar business. Rise above the rubble. We have the talent and with determination lets move things forward.
Big up to all my sisters in reggae. I respect what you do and I'm happy to be in this business with you.
Love Always Cherine
